Project 1

Business Card Ideas

I started looking at some different ideas for business cards. I really like these and I plan to spin mine off of one of them. At the moment I have nothing in the works because I want t to match my website. I just wanted to put these pictures up so I would have the inspiration later on.

Stormwind Line Art

I go the final image drawn out. Just need to do the line art inside of illustrator and plug it into Photoshop for it's final overlay and I will be done with project 1.

Project 2 so far

I have been playing with a little bit of placement. I am not 100% sure what I like as of right now. I might need to work out more of a formula for what I am looking for. Right now I am using 150pt Poor Richard font for my main title. All book Genres are at 50pt Minion Pro. Everything else ranges from 10 pt to 25pt Minion Pro. I might adjust so that it is easier to place it would take away creativity if I did that a little, so I am not exactly 100% with that.

If I end up with a formula I think this is what I am going to try. But for now I am going to expand on the 3rd image. I am happiest with that one so far. I like the overall placement of the book. I might even add in some illustrations for the holes something that represents either a book or a theme. not 100% sure yet though.

Basic Formula
Title: 150pt Poor Richard
Genre:75pt Minion Pro
Title: 25pt Minion Pro
Character Names: 20pt Minion Pro
Themes: 16pt Minion Pro
Author: 12pt Minion Pro

Stormwind Progression

Started getting my ideas around for the third poster in the series. These images and angels are going to be my inspiration. I am just having some issue with placement and perspective of the busiest city in the game.

Project 2

The Six Degrees of Separation

I wanted to explore the idea that the world is interlinked. The longer I am alive the more I have found that everything is connected in one way or another. I got inspiration for this project from a book journal I have been keeping for about 3 years. While reading I will write down a common factors (city, character name, themes…etc.) that happen throughout each book. I have started referring to my journal as the as my book of separations.  I have always found this idea amazing. In fact, my sister and I have always played the six degrees of Kevin Bacon, trying to stump one another.

For this project I wanted to create a poster series/video/interactive web page. I would have 3 large web charts linking ideas together; each chart will represent books, movies, or television. I will be using things like author name, character names, actors, and themes to link each item together. Whenever there is a common thread that thread between the pieces that bubble will be a different color. When a book and a film match up they will be red, when a book and television match up they will, and when they are 3 matching they will be purple. I also want there to be an audio layer to the piece. I will link the items together with quotes from the books, movies, and television.

Example Quote:

Her father got the job offer in Iceland just after Aria plucked a withered peach, cringing at how easily she’d bruised the soft flesh.

The start the book web.

Font Placement

This is what I have worked out for font placement. These are just a simple texture at 33% and with the image set to multiply. I am leaning tword the first one but with the lines from the thrid and forth.

Imagery is still not finalized. I have been running into placement issues of other elements I am adding into the pieces.

Artisit Statment

Traveling is something that everybody wants to do; though, not everyone is capable of jetting off to a dream destination. However, in our busy lives we are all looking for instant gratification when it comes to a mental break from our daily routine. Video games have become a mental vacation for many. They are a fast way to log off your real life, letting the user escape on a mid-day retreat in a matter of seconds. I wanted to take this idea of video games as a mental vacation and create retro inspired destination posters for locations within a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMO-RPG).  These posters were created to be placed within the game world (inspiring the player to take their character to a different location) and for outside the game (inspiring the user to log in and take a moment away from the real world).
The posters all contain hand illustrations and muted colors. These counter the vibrancy of the video game and reinforce the idea classic destination posters. Each poster is written in three different fictional languages, representing the diversity of people reading them.
Sit down, log in, and please remain seated until you have arrived at your destination.

Posters thus far

All posters still need saying, I am working on getting everything translated. Should have in a couple of days.

Ironforge: On the right hand side I need to move the mountains over just a pinch, coloring of the mid tone needs to go more of a dirty snow color, background mountain range needs to look snow covered. There is a weird red and orange on the door to the city.

Teldrassil: Tree needs leaves most likely maroon, Water on the right hand side needs a little bit of adjustment, not fully happy with the waterfall just yet.

New Version of Poster 1

This is what I have been working on tonight. I still need to add some text at the bottom about visiting. Something that will inspire a little. I also want to add in the seal of the people. Oh and the tree still needs leaves, I am thinking a Maroon color.

New(ish) Direction

So things are not turning out to what I envisioned. However, with a couple of tweaked drawing I have developed something that I am much happier with. It has more of the Craftsman styling that I was aiming for. Sadly, with this slight direction change it has put me a little further behind then I wanted to be. However, work continues.

Teldrassil: The Stump in the Ocean

 Close-up on the main imagery

 Ironforge: Hidden within a mountain
Changed direction completely here. It fits better within the style.
